Why I am running |
|
Dear Friends,
After years of talking, speaking, and writing about the problems we face as a state and a country, I have decided that I must step forward for change. To that end, I am running for the District 3 State Representative for Catoosa and Whitfield Counties. The theme of my campaign is Common Sense for a Change, and I am running as a Democrat.
My top priority will be to fully fund education in Georgia. The $1.5 billion in cuts Georgia’s schools have suffered in the last five years have sent us backwards, causing local property tax increases and local cuts to teachers and programs for our students. The funding must be restored.
What kind of Georgia do we want? One where our schools become more crowded and under funded, or one filled with opportunities to grow and prosper together? One where ceaseless traffic jams and pot holes block our paths home, or one where you can get to and from work safely and on time? One where uncontrolled growth destroys Georgia’s legacy, or one where we have plentiful clean water for generations to come? One where parking lots and strip malls have covered the once beautiful forests, or one where our children and grandchildren inherit Georgia’s natural beauty? One where endless infighting by politicians leads to cynicism and gridlock, or one where elected officials cooperate to solve Georgia’s problems?
I want a better Georgia. I believe in good government, one that works for the people. I believe that you share my values, and I need your help. Volunteering, contacting your friends, family, and neighbors, and yes, your financial contributions can help our campaign. It will not be easy. But, I am hopeful that the need for positive change will outweigh the partisan politics of the past. I look forward to hearing from you. We have work to do.
